Week 1

After this week I will be posting my responses for the week on Ning and just posting/responding to posts on works through this page. This is just to help me be more organized and for more aesthetic purposes.

Anne: This is a fine seed for a much longer discussion that you can start developing now and supporting through the semester, Richard. To write "AMAZING!" is just the start...
To tend that seed and support it (and to prepare yourself for some coming readings), please write about (here? blog? maybe blog is better because it is more likely to be read and easier to find) why what you described is "amazing." Just why are they important to note, the rate of change and the kinds of speed involved with the different media you name? Why ought we to pay attention to these aspects of media in our lives?

I am kind of a odd duck when it comes to the world. I look at it as plinko from the prices is right. You create some thing and then as it falls through time it touches certain people and places until it finds it place at rest. However, it is never at rest fully its is being changed, modified and recreated then taken back up to the top of the board to be dropped again. I am not history major by any means but the past is important to us all in order for us to understand where we are today. Also, with the creation of new technology we also create new dangers. Media for me is a lot of propaganda that I chose to ignore. I have a friend who is an anchor a WGN and he says ethics is left at the door at work. You job is to be pleasant, impartial and appease the masses. The stories that get shoved in the trash can, the ones we need to hear, are the real news.

I had time to kill today so I used my amazing flash skills to make a short.
The reason I chose pie charts and graphs is due to the queue of thoughts that can be attached to these simple images, and these simples images can distort how we view a subject or idea simply by resizing the chart, negating some number(s), negating facts and so forth. Rose Perot ran his entire presidential campaign using charts to back his arguments.
You can take a look at this wonderful chart and get false impressions about your safety.
Here this will make you paranoid about your money.
The bottom right image maybe true when comparing the American dollar to the Euro or UK Pound, but we still have a good exchange rate in just about.....every other country on the face of the planet.
